Urs Herzog with his extensive experience and innovative approach, significantly enhances ei3 Europe’s strategic initiatives in energy efficiency and technological advancement.
Urs holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from ETH Zürich. He began his career as a System-Engineer and Programmer at Zühlke AG Schlieren and ETH/PSI Würenlingen before moving into automation engineering at Holderbank Management & Consulting AG.
From 1996 to 2016, Urs held pivotal roles at Holcim Group Ltd., including Head of Electrical and Process Control Technology and Head of Energy at Holcim Technology Ltd. He led significant projects such as the development of a companywide Technical Information System (TIS) and a statistical tool for optimizing cement kiln and grinding processes, earning an ASCO Award for innovative energy efficiency.
Urs built and led an expert team for energy management and renewable power generation at Holcim Technology Ltd., pioneering initiatives like an electrical energy management tool and a “Demand Response” application. His efforts resulted in the implementation of nine cement plant waste heat recovery systems and two low-temperature WHR pilot installations.
He also led Holcim’s participation in the EU FP7 Program’s LOVE project, focusing on low-temperature heat valorization. Urs’s contributions are documented in various publications and two patents in cement mill control and waste heat extraction. Urs leverages his expertise and extensive network to support our mission and drive innovation.
