On September 11, 2012, at the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s fall meeting, the founder and CEO of ei3, Spencer Cramer, presented on the topic of using remote monitoring and cloud applications for measuring and reporting Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. For years, global enterprises have effectively utilized the ei3 remote monitoring cloud for real-time monitoring of equipment energy consumption and resource use. This remotely acquired data is analyzed alongside measured machine production results to derive precise CO2 emissions figures per unit of production. This accurate and reportable data, processed in a readily understandable format using real-time information, enables packaging manufacturers or converters to describe CO2 emissions and the sustainability impact of the converting stage in the packaging life cycle.
This valuable information can be employed for carbon disclosure or shared with supply chain partners for their own disclosure as Scope 3 emissions under the greenhouse gas protocol. Cramer’s insightful presentation will shed light on how the remote monitoring cloud effectively facilitates the collection, storage, analysis, and reporting of package sustainability data.
Highlighting the importance of environmentally responsible packaging operations in the context of increasing climate change challenges, active involvement and initiatives within the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and ei3, aimed at measuring carbon emissions from packaging production, facilitates efficiently mitigating greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously enhancing our business competitiveness.
